Invisible braces opened up new perspectives in orthodontics. Even those who were unwilling to wear braces due to short-term aesthetic inconveniences tend to show interest in the treatment as they know that a beautiful smile is key to our self-esteem and easily leads toward career advancement or helps us find love and happiness.

The goal of orthodontic treatment is a beautiful smile and a good bite, to ensure the normal development of teeth and bite by removing obstacles and to correct pre-existing problems so that an appropriate alignment, providing normal function and ideal teeth aesthetics can be achieved. Orthodontics deals with the correction of both individual and rows of teeth and the jawbones.
Braces are made of metal, ceramic or plastic and move the teeth by applying gentle pressure on them. Thanks to modern technology, wearing braces is much more comfortable nowadays than it was before. Moreover, there are new types of braces that are invisible.

Why and when is orthodontic treatment necessary?

The significance of orthodontic treatment is not only to create nice teeth and an attractive smile. The functional point of view is at least as important. There is a strong connection between irregular dentition, caries and periodontal disease.
Crooked, crowded, protruding teeth can be more difficult to clean, fillings are more difficult to place and there is a higher risk to develop second cavities. Keeping the gaps between teeth clean is also more difficult, which may lead to gum disease. Another cause of the latter can be the irregular contact of teeth and that an abnormal amount of stress is placed on some teeth.
Bite anomalies – called malocclusions – overload the mandibular joint, which leads to chewing pain and is responsible for excessive tooth wear.
Last but not least irregular teeth can have important negative psychological effects.

What kinds of orthodontic appliances are available?

How long does the treatment last?

The length of the treatment depends on many factors. Usually it lasts 1 or 2 years.

What should I be prepared for while wearing braces?

Braces will feel strange at first but will not hurt. Teeth may feel sore for a few days. The lips, cheeks and tongue may also be irritated until they become used to the surface of the braces. While wearing braces, maintaining good oral hygiene is of the utmost importance. Your dentist will give you detailed information on how to take care of your teeth and appliances properly.
You will need to regularly attend dental check-ups every 3-8 weeks, when your braces will be adjusted. For a couple of hours after the adjustment appointment, you may feel the same strange sensation as the first time.

What is the process of placing a bridge?

The two adjacent healthy teeth are used as abutments onto which the bridge is built, so the dentist first grinds them so that they are able to hold a crown. This preparation is performed with local anaesthesia. Then an imprint of the area in question is taken and sent to the dental lab. At the end of the first appointment, a temporary crown is placed on the 2 ground teeth.
The dental technician prepares the frame which you will try during the next visit. If it suits perfectly, the frame will be covered in the lab.
During the last visit, the temporary crowns are removed and the permanent bridge is bonded into place.
